LIFE LESSONS
I was watching some old CNA documentaries and I chanced upon this hostage taking incident in Manila. As I watched the film, the solemn and sombre music accompanied by the lighting setup, clear voiceover, and the chief negotiator’s backstory really moved me.
Technically this is a shadow side dim lighting in a very dull background, and the camera is placed interestingly slightly below the eye level to not convey superiority, but humbleness and makes him come across as emotional but professional and just trying his best. There’s this catchlight in his eye to highlight the emotions through his eyes.
Storywise, he was a chief negotiator of an earlier incident which ended in tragedy, but this time he was still pulled in to yet another crisis. It ended well as he applied the lessons learnt and try to save the hostage-taker’s life too as this documentary tells so.
This makes this video one of my liked videos on YouTube to remember how some videos can really standout beyond the fundamentals.
